Home Improvement and Rehabilitation Program

There is a one year waiting period for the Home Rehab/Improvement Program. When filling out an application, the applicant is applying for the following year. Assistance through this program is not guaranteed and there is no emergency funding. Applications will need to be updated on a yearly basis to stay on the waiting list for this program.

Eligibility of Applicant

  • Must be a Sault Tribe Member.
  • Must reside in the seven-county service area.
  • Applicant must meet current income guidelines.
  • The applicant's residence must be their "ONLY" year-round residence.
  • Must provide a recorded deed showing sole ownership of property. NO LAND CONTRACTS will be accepted.
  • Provide proof that property taxes are paid and current.
  • Proof of Homeowner Insurance Policy.
  • Present housing condition must be substandard, as defined in the program policy.
Asset Limits

  • Elders shall not exceed $35,000 in assets.
  • Non-elderly families shall not exceed $10,000 in assets.
Lien for Services

If applicant is selected for Home Rehab/Improvement Services a lien will be placed on the home. A binding commitment is entered among the Housing Authority and the recipient that includes the term of the agreement.
